Leslie Dewan氏(ウィキペディアより)
Dewan is a 2002 graduate of The Winsor School in Boston, Massachusetts.  She received S.B. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering in 2007.  She received her Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from MIT in 2013.  ]While at MIT, Dewan was awarded a Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship and an MIT Presidential Fellowship.
Dewan co-founded Transatomic Power in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2011 and is the Chief Executive Officer.  Transatomic Power is designing and developing a molten salt reactor(Generation IV reactor) that converts nuclear waste into electric power.  In December 2012,  Forbes magazine selected Dewan for their 30 Under 30 in Energy.  In September 2013, MIT Technology Review recognized Dewan as one of “35 Innovators Under 35”. In December 2013, TIME magazine selected Dewan as one of "30 People Under 30 Changing the World".

“Save the World with Nuclear Waste: New Approaches to Nuclear Power”


Abstract: The world needs a cheap, carbon-free alternative to fossil fuels to feed its growing electricity demand. Nuclear power seems like a clear solution to the problem, but its growth is hindered by rising concerns about safety, waste, and cost. My work focuses on adapting technology from the early days of the nuclear industry, the 1950s and 1960s, using modern computational methods to optimize their design.
Specifically, my company is advancing the design of the molten salt reactor, an extremely safe reactor design from the 1950s -- making the reactor more compact, lower-cost, and able to consume existing stockpiles of nuclear waste -- while keeping the design's significant safety benefits. These new reactors can push the boundaries of nuclear technology and allow for a safe, clean, and affordable answer to humanity’s energy needs.
